Biography

Alessandro Librio

Born in Erice (Sicily) in 1982. He begins studying violin, piano and composition at the age of 13 when he attends the Conservatory of A. Scontrino of Trapani, where in 1999 he receives a mention of honor for his concerts in contemporary music. 
He also studies at Genova with Giuseppe Gaccetta, at Marsala with Zoya Nademliska and in Rome with Francesco Paverini. In 2004 he meets Lelio Giannetto and begins a close collaboration with the cultural association “Curva Minore”, becoming part of the “Sicilian music crew”, "Onda Mediterranea", "Palermo Skratch Orchestra" and "Archibugi Strings Trio".
In 2005 he begins studying electronic music first with D. Sciajno and later with Francesco Galante. In the same year he plays at the “Dar Bach Hamba” (Tunisia) for the Foundation of the Orestiadi of Gibellina.

In 2005 he creates “38° Parallel” (a group wich works in  theatrical, musical and video art experimentation). For this group he writes the theatrical show called “Operation Zero” that was presented at Erice, Palermo and Rome.
In the same summer Alessandro wins the Agricantus theatrical contest, writing music for the show “Arabbì”.

Orientated towards improvisation he collaborates with some of the most influential improvisers and artists on the international scene, such as Patti Smith, Michael Moore, David Murray, Wim Wenders, Barre Phillips, Mike Cooper, Giancarlo Schiaffini, Michael Vatcher, Frank Gratkowsky, Gino Robair, Alvin Curran and others.

In 2006 he begins studying classical guitar, electric bass, viola and drums, He also re-encounters the cellist and composer Giuseppe Civiletti with whom he completes the musical film "Ground Zero" that takes him to perform in various Italian cities, in Spain and in New York.

In the summer of 2007 he wins second place in the international contest of video composition “Strade del Cinema” at Aosta. As a result he is invited to represent Italy in an evening dedicated to young European talents, at Aechen (Germany). He Encounters a very positive response and is invited again to represent Italy the following year.

In August 2008 he is employes by staff of photographer Oliviero Toscani. He creates a series of audio-visual performances for Toscani, amongst them is the performance realized in February 2009, for the inauguration of Toscani’s photographic exhibition at the Open House Gallery in New York.

In the same year he plays for the "Globe Unity Orchestra", "Instant Composer Pool Orchestra", and for the show "Yossl speaks to God" performed by Vittorio Sgarbi.

In 2010 he opens the season at the "National Choreograpghy centre/Ballet Preljocaj" in Aix en Provence (France), in collaboration with the coreographer Patrizia Lo Sciuto composing music for the show "La vie en scories".

He also devises and executes a performance in "Gallerie dell'Accademia" in Venice in which he "plays" the works of art and the rooms using all the sounds available in the space and the alarm system.

In 2011, He did  various installations for the EB & Flow Gallery in London and was invited as an official artist of the Italian Pavilion for the 54Th edition of the Venice Art Biennale, creating a sound-video installation "Palermo in Venice," where for 24 hours the soundscape of Palermo was mixed with that of Venice.

He has made recordings for the BBC and RAI, he plays an "Andrea Postacchini" viola (1832) and a "Riccardo Bergonzi" violin.
